Handheld CB radios

i just got an early XMAS gift from Angie...its a midland 75-822....and i got a Bandi too...got a cobra magnetic mount ant. but will return that in exchange for coax and a 4'firestick...cant wait..

i do have some questions about the bandi mount/firestick/coax install...what all do i need for this other than the actual bandi ..the coax and the firestick...any adapters, mounting for the firestick anything else?? i know that Nick did his with all of it..but do i need anything else?..i want to install it and be right doing it...

x2 on what Brian said. Despite what you may hear from online places, you do NOT need an adapter. I have that same setup with the 4" Firestock and no adapter needed.

so coax to firestick...need a connector to hold it on the bandimount ..right??

i hope that you dont mind this Nick...but in this pic where i have the circle, i need a connector from the coax to the firestick that mounts directly to the bandi right?? of course im takeing into account that there is a quick connect and spring...between the firestick and the coax....

This link shows everything you need... The quick disconnect is optional and I don't run it (fewer places for interference). The coax has something on the end that pokes up through the Bandi Mount to answer your question.

That adapter came with my coax. I ordered the 90' swivel coax with a removable end on the connector at the CB. Made for easy run through the FJ. I would reccommend the spring at least to help from damaging the firestick. I also got the quick disconnect so I could remove when not using & go into my garage.

By 90' i assume you mean 90 degree swivel coax...and thanks so much for the info...most of the coax i see for sale is in lengths of 18'...do we actually need 18'?...
i hope to be getting the antenna and coax real soon...

I will be ordering mine in a few days. I am going all Firestik. Antenna all the way to the the CB connector.

Mike, the connector for the stud usually comes with the coax. The 18' seems long but it is usually the perfect amount to run it up to the front. Firestik makes good coax its thin and really flexible for running it with the Bandi mount i think its called Fire-Flex.

Where is everyone ordering the Firestix and connectors from?

I got my Firestick at 4wheelparts. Good pricing.

You do need 18' the radio & antennea are tuned to an 18' cable or multiple there of. If you end up with extra do not coil it in a round loop. Make it oval & give it a twist then ziptie it together. The round coil can cancell out its own signal.

For all of you that have the OFFICIAL "NCFJ" midland 75-822 ..where are you mounting the radio and from where are you running the coax from and too?? and where are you hanging/mounting the handset??

Sounds like we need to have a big CB install party...

No radio with the Midland we have... It's an all in one unit. My coax runs in through the back throu a rubber grommet, through the wheel well compartment, up to the front and under the cheap plastic strip on the door jam, across the steering column and up through the hole by the e-brake. The handset sits in a cell holder I have on the plastic piece in front of the passenger seat... The flat part above the glove box.

Oh, it's also portable and I keep it usually in a Molly bag I have up front when it's not hooked up/in the cell holder.

Thanks Rolando...If folks are using the Spring and the quick disconnect, does this not make the "base" quite tall? Seems like that would be about 6" of stuff before the antenna?

It's 6" exactly on mine... Just measured. I'm not using a quick disconnect though so that might add another few inches.

So yesterday my son got me the 4' Firestik and the connector. Now I need to get a cable and I am all set.

Seems I recall discussion about setting up/"dialing in" the CB. Can someone fill me in on that? Or do I just sit in my driveway and turn dials till I hear someone? Please don't tell me I need to read the instructions...but I will if I must...

I admit, this is not a strong area for me, as I still need to have mine tuned. I THINK channel 19 is the universal channel for truckers and 9 MIGHT be an emergency channel. Im still trying to figure things out myself. I just know that we were all on channel 7 in OBX and it worked great =)

Scott once you have it all intalled and connected you need to have the firestick antenna tuned...and you can do this with an SWR meter...i know that SPEEDRYE has one but he is here in summerfield...SWR meters dont cost much ..you can get one for around 20 bucks ..the good thing about having one of your own is that you can always adjust your tuning...and you can help everyone that doesnt have one...lol...

Im not 100% sure, but I THINK 19 was what I was talking to truckers on when I was driving out to NM this past Thanksgiving.

Yeah, the NOAA updates are awesome.... definitely a selling point for me honestly, because I was looking at a few other handsets.
