Is anyone familiar with Ham radios? I'm interested in getting involved but don't really know where to start.

If we can turn this into a "Ham radio for dummies" thread, I'd like to learn a little more.

Some of my questions:
-What are the different meters?
-Do different meters require different antennas?
-How do people contact the space station? (see next question)
-How do you contact someone with a certain "callsign"
-Can a Ham be used as a CB?

Hopefully someone on here has the patients to help me learn a little more about this!

Some radios have a 10 meter and a 11 meter bands (galaxy 33) can be used for both but a differant antenna would be needed for ham,as for call sign on ham usually comes from your license from the FCC .on cb or citizen band just make up a name.I have a galaxy 33 but i have never been on ham side. this radio has uppeer and lower channels where if someone else has that band or freq. you can go there without others hearing you unless they find that freq.I love talking on the cb as long as there is good conversations are out there.can answer more if need be ,but im not expert just been around them for a while talking on them. good luck hope this gets you started.
