| I have always used GIF's. Not so much on the FJ forum, but I have grown bored. | |

| Well guys, me and Jami warmed it up for you today!!! And YES, it was DEAD out there! Me and Jami were there from 10am to 4:30pm and saw two Jeeps together, and two four-wheelers together. That was it!
4Running, you might be fine without a rear locker, depending on what you want to run! We did Kodak today (middle line) and I couldn't get my rear diff to lock. I had to try a couple times, but did get up. Jami made me look pathetic (makes me want bigger tires...and to fix my rear diff!).
DAYUM! I smacked something at Kodak rock!!! I had some momentum but caught something underneath enough to stop me dead like running into a concrete wall! It actually threw me into the steering wheel. No idea what happened. But my rear link mounts are both mushed in around the end of the link, it goes "squeaky-squeaky" when you get in and out of the FJ now.
Even Dutch John was a piece of cake; I even did the tall-walled ditch in 4H.

| Yea with or without the Diff lock I can do every trail out there, but I can't have as much fun playing around on different lines
Sounds like you had a good time, you aren't having fun unless you are breaking stuff!
As for getting the rear diff to lock, trying driving in a Serpentine pattern on a gravel road, (4lo, Elocker engaged) the actuator is packed with really thick grease and if it's kept dormant it'll need persuasion to engage

| i hit the same thing 2 weeks ago on kodak...mushed my right side lower sock mount...did that after i broke an axle...if you went up the left side after the middle line on kodak..thats what you hit...i dont know of too many fjs that havent gone thru there without mushing something...i also found another way to engage that locker..if it still doesnt engage you may need to take the loker off and with a small screwdriver slide the gears over..i can give you a link to the info if you need it...its a pretty easy trail fix and easier at home fix...all you need is a 12mm wrench, a 14mm wrench and a big zip tie...
that center line is fun but if you pull to the laft when your done you WILL bang you junk on something...i hit it so hard i also got thrown into the steering wheel..i thought the darn airbags were gonna go off...

| Doug and myself, well we had a good time out there yesterday. No pressure and plenty of time to delegate our lines. I was up front of Doug spotting when he came to a dead stop on Kodak and I did not even see that coming. It was like hitting a wall, lol. I give Doug credit for taking the lead on the more difficult trails considering I had only been on Wolfden & Falls Dam prior. Looking forward to the next oportunity!! | |

| What section is Dewey's shelf on? It looks familiar but I don't want to guess here. | |

| That's what I was thinking but wanted to be sure. When me and Doug was out there yesterday we must have went left of Dewey's shelf on the way up Kodak because I do not remember trying too hard to make it up like you guys were doing there. | |

| Yea you come to the hill and there are too ways to go up, the left is easier, but sketchy, because it is off camber. The right is a bit more difficult and that is where you can try the ledge | |

| Had to do quite a bit of painting on the sliders when I got home today. Both sides were banged up pretty good My steering wheel is also about 45* to the right now. | |

| Oh you poor thing.
I figured out why they did that to Daniel. A Jeep caught fire last Sunday and the USFS had to get a dozer up there to get it down, so they had to fill in/destory the V-notch obstacle.

| yep. It was very strange getting to the first ledge without even noticing where the v notch was - gatekeeper. It was completely leveled. The fill in at the ledge looks like it will eventually wash away. But for now, it made Daniel no more difficult than any of the other trails. | |

| Well Jami and I did the right fork on Rocky Mount near Dewey's shelf, the rock outcrop side, but avoided the shelf itself. Isn't that where Mike blew his axle?
Thanks for the tips on the rear diff. I tapped it with a hammer (probably didn't help) and found a dirt road. Within a couple of minutes I finally got it to engage and after exercising it, it's back to normal. Moral? Use 4WD and the rear locker once a month!!!
That's interesting about Daniel, didn't know that. Jami and I are too chicken to take our un-paid-for rigs out to Daniel!
Any vids? Maybe I'll get around to posting some vids from our run Friday.

Tyler went up it no issue. Then Nick made it to the point where he got high centered, due to such a long wheelbase. The winch was then broken out to pull him the rest of the way! I firmly believe a Stock FJ could handle Daniel in its current state with no issue. You might scrape a couple places, but they do on other trails too.
