Windrock/Coal Creek Trip June 27th

Its really hard with being our first time going.  If it is similar to uwharrie where you can bypass stuff, than the lack of skids is probably not a deal breaker.  However if there aren't these bypasses it could be more than you bargain for.  Right now it looks like I will be going without skids.   My fingers are still crossed for a "shipped" notice in my email in the next few days.


What are the likely wheelin times each day?  Are we shooting for 9-3 with a break for lunch, or 9-4,9-5,9-9:shock:?  Just tryign to get an idea of what we are likely to need for each day.

Starting at 9 each day sounds good.  Hard to tell how long we would be out there.  From what I can tell, some of these trails could take a good half a day to run, so we need to be careful not to jump on one at 3, thinking we'll be back by 5.  Myself, I would probably get too worn down doing more than 4 hours at a pop I think.  So I don't see myself running from 9am to 9pm, unless we had a decent break in between, being able to get back to the cabin for a bit.

Welp - long term forecast isn't looking very good for a dry trip unfortunately. 

It doesn't look that bad.  Just 20-40%, which for a forecast a week out is likely to be more cautionary than accurate.

So, everyone is arriving Thursday, and who is planning on wheelin' how many days?...just Friday, Friday Saturday?

Most people are wheeling Friday and Saturday.  Some people might try to get a head start on Thursday, but not me.  You have to pay for a land use pass for any day you are there.  I am staying in a hotel, so I dont want to pay for an extra pass for Me and the family.

We will be doing a little bit on Thursday....not a whole lot I imagine.
Primarily Friday and Saturday and some mild stuff on Sundey.

The weather appears to be looking OK!  Chances of afternooon T-storms...but that is just about everyday this time of year.

It all depends on what trails you go on. You can spend days there and probably not need 4WD or you can go down a black diamond or a double black diamond (depending on which trail) that will scare your pants off.

Does anyone know if there are tire/air filling stations anywhere in the park?  I am bringing the portable, but I dread the wait to fill up the new tires with it.

Paul, the hotel I am staying at is 8 miles from the park.  The town is big enough to have a walmart, so there should be plenty of things right out side the park.  I might even ride to the hotel with 20 psi on the tires.

Alright, hotel booked, wife approved and coming, all systems "Go" at this time...

Weather is looking better and I am getting excited!  We need to think of a meet up time and place for the morning.

Same one as you, although it was based on price as much as anything...that and proximity to Panera and their coffee and bagels!

just booked double tree hotel will not get there till 700 thurs night due to work. Its time to start the list is it not ?

Its a 50/50 split right now.  Here are my ideas.

1.  We could meet at the park office around 9:00.  I need to call to see when it opens and what forms of payment they take.

2.  We could meet at Nick's Manor Cabin around 8:00 and he can have breakfast ready for us.
