| Any more guesses after this post... Just trying to keep it toyota OK so I should have all my parts by weeks end. Just for some illustration of what all is involved in modifying the axle housing here are some new pictures. In this picture you can see the locking shift collar that locks the diff. Unlike the stock third member the area where this shift collar sits require a notch in teh gasket area of the housing on the stock axle. That notch allows the clearance needed for the shift collars shift fork to slide back and forth. In this picture you can see the shift collar in the unlocked position and the maximum clearance needed for the shifter. This picture shows the shift actuator lined up with the the mounting holes... ghetto exploded view if you will. It also shows what a street driven only diff with less than 20k miles on it looks like that I scored for 150$ | |

A drive to SC seems like it would be worth it for what looks like a steal....I would think the guy could have got at least $90-$100 a tire based on your pic....

| put together the wiring harness to adapt a 3rd gen 4runner wiring to the FJ locker wiring... next project is to wire the 3rd gen wiring into something I can hook to a switch and a light on my dash. Here is a picture showing the area that will need to be notched on my 4runners axle housing. The open diff 8" axle is a smooth round edge where the elocker housing has the 1/2" notch you see in the inside of teh differential gasket. | |

| new suspension planning is making my head spin...
This weekend I am going to make me a switch to turn off atrac and vsc. This will be in preperation for a move to a mechanical automatic locker.
Question for anyone with an aftermaket selectable locker though. When you lock your locker do you disable atrac or does atrac just cease to work on the locked axle??? I guess im asking you larry

| Locker for the rear only?
A-Trac would stop working on the rear when the locker is engaged but it would still run up front. That's my understanding of it. I do not have one but the ARB selectable looks very nice.
You can also do a mod to disengage VSC for the pre 08 4Runners. This way you do not have to lock the center diff to disengage. Link below

| aww hell i got bad luck with keeping straight bodies... Went to help my buddy get a deer he shot out of the woods below the house tonight. got my passenger side mirror on the 4runner against a tree and leaned the whole truck up against the wall of a gulley. No pictures cause it was dark as all hell but Ill clean it off tomorrow night and assess the damage. Doesnt look to be more thana few dents in teh magic doors and some heavy scratching on the passenger side mirrors paint. | |
