"Located just past mile marker 8 on the west bound lane of I-40 in NC. This is NOT an exit off the interstate, but a forest road that is accessible directly from the 4-lane. It is not identified in any way, so you have to pay attention as you near the turn. Heading west on I-40 you will pass the Fines Creek exit, a rest area at about mile marker 11, and then be watching for mile marker 8. When you see the marker, make sure no one is behind you and pull over into the service lane - be ready to turn because it is hard to see this forest road. It dumps you out along Wesley Creek, which intersected with Fines Creek Road." http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/south-east-region/145279-places-wheel-south-east.html | |

| wow sounds like a perilous exit!! that should be fun in itself...we might want to pick a place prior to that maybe like exit 11 and convoy to the turn off...i think that may be the best way to do this...especially if there is someone going that knows exactly where it is...they can take lead...and use the radios that God intended for the FJs to slow us down and get us there safely...

| Well I just got back from the trail. I almost drove right past it lol. It was pretty fun. I didn't think it was going to be anything at all until you cross the creek and then it got better. I kept going straight where if "forks" and got nothing but a ton of pinstriping and a dead end (tree down). Next time I go I am gonna bare right and see where that takes me. I will try and upload some pictures tomorrow (I need to get a SD card reader). | |

| Here are the pictures as promised. This is part of the "entrance" to the trail. Little creek crossing. As you can see it gets pretty narrow. When I kept going straight where it forks, it gets even narrower. I got a LOT of pinstripping. This is one of the more technical parts of the trail. I didn't air down because I didn't know if I would be able to find a place to air back up. The A/T's don't have too much tread left but still did a great job. I don't think anyone will have any problems running this. I am stock and did just fine. Here is another cool little spot I came across. You can't see it but there is pretty big rock directly under my t-case that I actually ended up coming down. I got out and check and luckily nothing was leaking or broken just a little rock rash. All the more reason to get some skids! This is where it gets really narrow. I probably won't go that way again because it was just one branch after another dragging down the side. All in all it was really fun. I am probably going to go back sometime before the meet and check out where the other side goes. Sorry for the long post will all the pictures but hopefully this gives everyone some idea of what to expect. EDIT: There is a pretty deep water crossing that I didn't get a picture of because I was too worried about getting across. The water was easily up to my rear diff so I will be doing the SCUBA mod before I go back. | |
