been busy with life, so I took a few minutes to move the new Garmin GPS to above the mirror. I had an older suction cup mount from the previous unit to play with and cut down and modify.
this was easy
...
figured out how long and at what angler I needed the arm/ball to be, and where to locate it for clearance and pivoting of the GPS.
next, I dug up a threaded blind nut from a sex bolt (security bolt) that was just the ticket!
mixed up some KWIK JB Weld, pushed some down into the plastic arm and inserted the threaded blind nut using a washer and a jam nut as a stop until the JB Weld set up, which is dam quick...
while that was curing I located the mounting hole and drilled that into the plastic cover above the mirror. From doing mock ups, the plastic cover lost it`s sharp bite (rounded corners on the holding teeth) so located/measured and drilled for 2 small screw into the aluminum bracket underneath the plastic cover... when the final fit was completed.
The arm/ball is also held on by a small machine screw and it is secure.
Now the GPS is solid enough, no vibration or movement when rolling...
test drove it earlier and it`s DA BOMB!
