These guys are sponsors at the FJ Summit and if I get a deal, I was thinking of getting a set for the beach.....any thoughts?

if your in really soft sand by yourself and like to dig... sure go for it.

I honestly think that a 2x6 would do the same thing for sand though

Interesting concept. I guess theyre saying the raised upper part would grab the tire better than, say, a 2x6? If theyre not too expensive (relative statement of course!) Id say go for it. I wouldnt personally spend too much unless I planned on moving to the beach.

David, I meant to tell you, when I was at 4 Wheel Parts on Glenwood Ave
last week I saw these. It was a different brand but the exact same product.
If I remember correctly, they were $150 for a set (2) and they were in a
huge box right up front by the register.

Thanks for the heads up. I will see what the vendor is selling them for at the Summit (usually they offer good discounts), and pending that, I may make a trip to 4wParts to check them out.

Whoa. Ok, Im impressed. Im not sure a piece of wood could work since there would be no traction. Never tried it before though so I dont know. I like those things.

Notice how there wasnt a single stuck FJ! cheers

Hey Rolando, I think David should give everyone a demonstration while we're out there. They definitely look to be a very useful product. I seriously doubt a 2x6 would work as easily especially in muddy situations.

Well....the only time anyone got stuck, I was not there and had the Maxtrax with me.....my fail.... Rolling Eyes

However, we were fortunate enough to have Cliff and his winch along to get Scott and himself out by attaching to Rolando....now THAT should have been caught on film, but I only think they took still pics....

So maybe next time or, hopefully, this winter will bring some snow to try them out...

A MAXTRAX is designed with rough top and bottom surfaces to assist with grip where as a 2x6 is smooth, doesn't have leash points, lashing points, ramps, designed to dig with, handles, storage points, etc.

Much of the price of a set of MAXTRAX is in the materials used. It is very strong and durable but does have a significant price. The Smittybilt copies are not made with the same material and appear to me to be reverse engineered (copies) from the original MAXTRAX design. I don't expect the copies to be on the market too long...

MSRP on the MAXTRAX are $299. We have them on sale (click here) at $270 and can deliver for free to events.

Poor David has had his since before our OBX trip in Oct and hasnt gotten to use them yet. lol. I agree on the wheeling. As soon as URE opens up or if theres anything in your neck of the woods. Im usually down in Gastonia, NC a few weekends a month and could probably shoot down, depending on distance.

Rip off. pressure trated plywood with herculiner, and roofing screws for metal roofing have a hex head almost identical to the traction on maxx traxxs. Plus only about 20 bucks, and just redo in 10 years when they are toast.
