I had an extra CB mount spring.  The extra spring adds 3" of height and this turns to put my antenna 1/2" lower than the opening for the garage.  So this is perfect!

Here is my question.  Can you see any reason why having 2 spring coil mounts would be bad?  I can't, but I am not smart.

A sleeve I made from some old tubing.  This is to shield the antenna from the metal of the tire carrier.

Is that tubing going to hinder the spring's or springs' job?

No, is its flexible tubing that I spray painted black.

The only issue I can foresee would be too much springiness going down the highway and the antenna whacking the top.  If you don't have problems with that, I think you'd be fine so long as it tunes up okay.

I like the tubing over it...Not that your question was related to looks. I have a spring and a quick disco, so basically the same as 2 springs (as far as parts between the antenna and the mount as it relates to reception).

Does the tubing simply slide over them? I might have to check into doing that...

1" ID tubing at Lowes.  I think it was $1.50/ft when I originally bought it.  It was clear and I spray painted it black.  I use it for rope around tree when I plant them.  I might go buy another foot so I can have it higher a little longer.

I does just slide right over it.  The spring is probably 7/8 - 15/16", so its an easy fit.

Looks good. The little extra height will help a lot. Should be no problems running 2 springs....Same as running a spring + quick-disconnect really.

Yeah thats wad I was thinking.  The extra spring does make it extra flexy.  I might have to put something in the tube to stiffen it.

It worked fine this saturday.  I still need to tune it though.

Is this the Firestick with the tunable tip? Ive got the 3 foot version with the tunning tip and man it was a lot easier to tune than my buddies firestick that required cutting coils to get the SWR down....
