Gulches ORV Park - February 17, 2013

Well it is snowing in the western part of the state. Supposed to snow all the way through 8 pm.

Any precip is past Gulches according to the map, but will have to see if there is still enough interest by this evening. Did anyone / is anyone going down today? I know people were getting room and camping so I assume some are pretty committed. Skip was also opening early for us. May have to see if that is still happening....

Damned weather.

I mean I am going regardless. Yeah snow/mud/rain would make things a lot more difficult but also interesting haha

I'm definitely out at this point. Need to pick my chances for going, and would rather try again mid March on a dry day hopefully.

Anyone that still plans to go may want to check with Skip before heading out to see how conditions are, and see what time he can open.

Good point. Would whoever emailed Skip the first time email him again to see what's up?

Skip said the ground will freeze overnight, and then begin melting in the afternoon tomorrow, making things real slick, since there will be mud on top of frozen ground.

Honestly, if you're planning on traveling far for this, I would wait for better conditions.

Does anyone know if the people who were saying over night have already left yet?

No telling. Darrell was getting a hotel with his GF this evening I thought..

I thought bigdogdewey and the Hube were staying somewhere as well?

I figure we will know a lot more when they chime in (hopefully)

I'm still fine to go pending there is still a group!... I'd love to have others who've been there before around as well, since I am not one to want to lead..

Look I may be in or out. I have 3" of snow here at th house. I want to play in it with my son. I am going to email skip and tell him not to worry about opening early, unless 4 of you guys commit to going. Adam, yota, I know Casey is still going. So need one more. I am going to email him by 7 if I don't hear from you guys.

If we can get four people in, the I am going. So right now that makes me and Casey, correct?

i'm still in jacksonville so i cant really chime in, i was actually going to be leaving in the next few hrs but it is snowing here as well, and if the conditions stay the same i may not make the 5hr trip

I'm in. Since Casey is definitely going, and it sounds like others still want to go, I'd like to try and help make the group one more. Start driving Darrell!

OK, I wont cancel the early opening. You guys have an awesome time! Take lots of pictures. I might change my mind later tonight and see you guys there.

if for some reason you guys change your mind, please try to call Skip(The gulches office) and let them know. I dont wont for him to do this for us and us not give him that courtesy.

Right now I am leaning towards staying here. I had a rough day at Richland. However I could easily get bored tonight and change my mind.

Skip said he would have someone there to let us in at 10. A little before that so you can air down and the do all the usual getting ready talk/stuff.

Based on the pics, as soon as it thaws, it is going to be one sliiiiiiiiick, muddy mess! As Skip would say, if you've got street tires, its not going to be your day!

2wheeldrive and I have received a confirmation on strike package Golf-Oscar-Romeo-Victor-Papa. Ingress from the Green-Zone will commence at ohhh-five-thirty. Should see you gentleman at the rally point by zero hour(0930a). A little weather ain't gonna stop us!

Paul, I always take more trail damage from Richland Road than any where else. I have no idea why, but I do. I don't have any pictures for here, but I completely demolished a center cap (cheap Japanese crap) and once again hurt my rear passenger end.

Pissed the wife off too, so that has internal issues associated with it.


You guys going to the Gulches will be fine. Most of the trails we normally do aren't that bad even when slick. A few that are, well, you will find out before you get into trouble on them. Be careful on #28 and Rebel blvd. Other than that you guys will have a blast. Honestly I think you guys will enjoy it more. It will make the easier trails more fun! That one mundane hill climb around #3 should be a fun one tomorrow.

Yea I am in, already in Charlotte. Brian I really hope you change your mind. Still haven't heard from Mike....
