| All, the following is a "close to final" itinerary for the weekend. It will only be open to suggestion through this week. Let me know what you think:
OBX Itinerary: CB channel 7 (Bruisers are using channel 22)
Hotel: Holiday Inn Express 3915 N. CROATAN HWY P.O. BOX 1096 KITTY HAWK , NORTH CAROLINA 27949 United States
Friday Night:
Early Bird Meet: Barefoot Bernie'sTropical Grill & Bar 3730 North Croatan Highway Kitty Hawk, North Carolina 27949
Distance from Hotel: .05 miles. Walking: 9 minutes 6pm - ??? Very Casual, drinks/appetizers – who ever wants to show up.
Point of Contact:
Paul Ward (paulwardinc) paulwardinc@gmail.com (910)-617-7852 Rolando Villegas (Carolina Cruiser15) (704) 842-2779
Saturday:
Depart HIX Parking Lot 10:00 am
Drive to Cape Hatteras Light House (1hr 30 minutes)
Tour lighthouse grounds , group picture
Climbing tour is only open till Oct 11, 2011 Visitor's Center museum and grounds open year-round.
Lunch Hatteras Island? Packed? On the beach? http://hatterasislander.com/HatterasIslandBeachAccess.html. There is also a picnic area and sandy beach for fun in the sun with little ones who find the ocean a bit intimidating. The Salvo Day Use Area is a great place to pack a lunch, cook out and soak up the sun while the kids play in the shallow waters of the Pamlico Sound. Perhaps they would enjoy crabbing from the water's edge. For your convenience restroom facilities are in place as well as grills and picnic tables. http://wikimapia.org/1171771/Salvo-Day-use-area
Drive back to Kitty Hawk, sights along the way
Sight suggestions:
Jockey Ridge State Park: http://www.jockeysridgestatepark.com/
Wright Brothers Memorial KDH - http://www.nps.gov/wrbr/index.htm
(Please add suggestions and we can all discuss)
Dinner: I had to to go the option of a BIG location, just incase we have as big a turn out as I hope, so I highly suggest the following:
Captain Georges Seafood Buffet 705 s Croatan highway, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 4.5 miles from hotel Pint glasses will be issued at dinner
This place is big and is used to tour buses, so we should be good. I have an email to them asking for discount coupons and advising them of our group size. Even though this is a BUFFETT, it is amazing good! The food quality is spot on and the variety can't be beat.
Sunday:
Depart HIX at 9:30am, drive to Corolla , visit Currituck Beach Light house (this is the only lighthouse that appears to be open for climbing during our weekend.) http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/visit.php This is not mandatory, I did not plan a “group tour” as I am sure not all will want to climb the light house. Next year, if we all want to include this for sure, we can set up a group tour.
Spend rest of the day after that on the beach driving/exploring.

| Bruisers are usually on 22.
Gonna have to skip on the dinner too, like the hotel, I have to cut expenses for this trip.

| Me and my girlfriend will be leaving Raleigh early Friday, probably around 6am or so. I know some others who are rolling in mid-morning. I think David, his wife and son will be getting in late afternoon.
Most people are coming in later though I think because of work.

| Just realized you guys aren't even going to Ocracoke? The ferry ride is free, makes a good photo, and it's the longest stretch of beach you can ride on in the Banx! ... Oh well

| I would suggest everyone print this out and keep in their truck so they know where the ramps are, this is really old and there are more closures. But good general info for the new guys...

| Yeah I think Hatteras is the furthest South we're going. For only being there 1 full day, Ocracoke would be a haul. | |

| On the night driving permit, it looks like it only applies after 10pm. Is this correct? I'll probably be sound asleep in the hotel by 10pm... | |

| Yeah, I think thats right. I figure Ill be in bed early too but Id rather be prepared... you know, just in case. It would be sweet if we could get a little fire going with everyone out there with their lights and all. I could stay up later for that | |

Lol... Ok maybe 11... And I think you can have a fire under certain circumstances... Like natural wood only and it has to be below high tide mark and 100 yards away from vegetation

| You can have fires only on Hatteras, but the above restrictions apply. No other places north, or south except for Hatteras allow fires. I might be up for dinner Saturday and head back out for a nice campfire. | |

| Dang that's crazy. We figured Hatteras is about 1.5 hrs from the hotel and the restaurant is only about 15 mins from the hotel. | |
