PostSubject: 2010/2011 K&N Air Filter   2010/2011 K&N Air Filter Icon_minitimeSat Oct 08, 2011 4:47 pm

I bought a K&N air filter for my 2011 FJ. I used it for about 200 miles. I started reading threads on the blue room about K&N air filters. Its seems like everyone is either heavily for them or heavily against them. Well I don't know enough to really have a valid opinion, so I decided against using it.

It is pretty much new and really just want to get some of my money back. $50 and it is shipped to you! Let my paranoia be your gain.

No one? I figured I would try it here for a few days before I post it in the blue room.

Hey Brian, before you post it in the Blue Room, you may want to try using it. David has one and swears by it. He noticed a difference (improvement) in MPG driving out to Summit as well. Its also nice because you only have to clean/recharge it every 20K miles, instead of a regular filter, which for a new FJ will still run close to $40 anyway. The filters I use are around $25 but I plan on getting a K&N for the OBX.... shoot, if I use it for one full "charge", Ive already made my money back!! David still uses the OEM one for off roading and dusty roads, but uses the K&N on a daily basis.

If you still decide to sell it on the Blue Room, Id strongly encourage you to lower the price a bit. I was at O' Reillys the other week and saw them new for $45 and autoanything.com has them for $42 w/ free shipping. Just wouldnt want you to get "flamed"... those guys can be brutal!!! lol

Wow, definitely didnt mean for this to be a full page lecture!! Just thought Id give my .02 for what its worth!

Haha I hear ya man. I always check autoanything first. They also send out a $10 off coupon when you fill out a review for something recently purchased. Fast and free shipping always.

Brian, just use the filter for street use and swap it out with an oe filter when you go on off road trips. Thats what i plan to do.

Good luck either way.

Thats what David does.

I got the aFe Pro Dry S air filter a few weeks ago. Its a direct replacement for the OEM filter and the best part is, its a DRY filter so no need to oil or recharge. Just bang out the dirt and put it back in. Claims to be a lifetime filter also. So far, Im impressed.

I ran K and N in my vette and last blazer, because that is what was in it when I got it. I put one in the FJ last month.

I did my Avg. MPG for 4 tanks preceding my oil/filter change. My driving routes are pretty identical from week to week/tank to tank; my Avg MPG was 18.2 over the 4 tanks, I mat it on occasion leaving stop lights.

I got 1 extra MPG over the puralator I used last oil change, the Avg MPG on the last 2 tanks was 19.4 I personally thought K and N was a pile of hooie, but I will continue to use one from now on.

I have just recently put mine back in. I am going to give it another shot. I have been tracking my mileage/mpg on a spreadsheet since I bought it back in June.

I just ordered one and I keep up with all my mpg so we'll see too. It should be here by the end of the week.

Another cool thing about it is that you never need to replace it, just clean it and you're good!
