| In thinking of Veterans Day (November 11, 2013), I thought it would be fun for all our veterans to share some of their military service info here so we can thank them formally! I will start with mine (no thanks necessary... ) David B United States Navy Hospital Corpsman Delayed Entry 1989 - 1990 Active duty 1990 - 1994 IRR 1994-1997 Duty stations include: Boot Camp - Great Lakes, Ill Hospital Corpsman "A" school - Great Lakes, Ill FMSS 8404 "C" school - Camp Geiger/Johnson, NC Portsmouth Naval Hospital - Portsmouth, VA 2ND Medical Battalion, 2ND FSSG, Camp Lejeune, NC USMC - oo-rah Devil Docs!!! Notable memory - I missed being deployed to Operation Desert Storm by a matter of days..... Another notable memory: Was "deployed" to south Florida for 2 months for Hurricane Andrew support. Flew down to Homestead, FLA in a C-130 THROUGH Hurricane Andrew, provided medical support to Homestead Florida residents when they had their hospital destroyed by the Cat 5 hurricane that decimated the region. Another notable memory - I attended formal training and am certified in Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare! | |

Air Station=Duty standing, working on aircraft and deployments
Coast Guard deployments are typically 30 to 45 days.
5 total deployments:
1 JIATF South deployment: West Coast, 378 ft cutter, went to Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta and Guatemala. 2 Bering Sea deployments: Think Deadliest Catch. 378 ft cutters, 30-40 ft seas, high winds, freezing rain and snow. 1 land based deployment to Key West: spent most of the time flying, searching for migrants. 1 deployment bouncing between 210 ft cutter, GITMO, and flying around Haiti when they had their earthquake.
All the deployments were the best times. Had busy times and fun times. Got to experience a lot and glad I don't have to deploy anymore. Up for transfer this summer and have no idea where I am going yet. | |
