Ok so I have the house to my self this week and decided on a fun little project Ok so 4x4 is better becouse of more traction 4x2 has half that even with good tires it still slips I have 150 ft of this bike chain stuff that is huge its like 1 in thick So I am planing on spacing them at every 6in then building a ring in the center to hold and remove them So hopefully this will give me the traction in the rear to do what u guys can do Also no more getting stuck I get to a trail put them on leave and take them off It will not be a smooth ride but as long as the wheel is touching something it will have grip Any thoughts

I'm having trouble visualizing what your plan is. Are these chain things going around your tires? I honestly believe if you invest in a winch and avoid mud, you'll be just fine. Not wheeling alone is also a good solution because if you do get stuck, it won't be for quite as long

Oh I see now. I bet it would actually make traction worse but we will never know unless you try it

Did you find the key to the liquor cabinet when your parents went away?

On a serious note, assuming you were serious about this - it's a terrible idea.
First, you would actually reduce your traction trying to get over rocks. Second, everyone around you would be in danger if they broke free. Third, I can't imagine the damage they would do to the trails. Fourth, I can imagine the damage they will do to your truck when they break.

Two big reasons snow chains are ilegal to use all year round:
1: damage to the road
2: Dangerous because traction is worsened.
That is what I learned in Alaska about chains on tires.

OMG...i agree with Brian....ITS BRILLIANT!! absolutely a great idea...what would make it a better idea is if you could link the front tires with the rear tires and come up with some sort of "caterpillar track" that way it would even act as if it had a locker in the front and the rear...absolutely a brilliant idea...and when the parents are not home that is always the best time for ideas ....noone around to distract you from brilliance!!!
or you could get a winch bumper, a winch and stay the hell away from mud!!!

How would one go about purchasing a set of this awesomeness? And also, how would one convince God to send lots and lots of snow to Charlotte?

One day you will come up with a great idea
Sell it and buy something 4x4.
I bought a supercharged 4runner with an e-locker for a hair over 8 grand. And then how much money would you have left over to lift, add bumpers, add a front locker....and more.
OR, you could have a 2wd FJ that will never be anywhere near as capable as a 4x4 counterpart. You will always slow the group down, and possibly make them avoid harder obstacles.
NOW, you might say I am being harsh or whatever, but I am not. I was YOU a little over a year ago, trying to make 2wd work, and try I did. I thought I wouldn't be happy getting rid of my 2wd, but look at me now.

I think having a two wheel drive or two in the group is awesome! Self and aided recovery is something almost never practiced until needed, then its too late. This way we get the benifit of helping him over things, winching, using pulleys to multiply pulling power, hi-lift jacking to clear objects, lots of great skillz to be mastered, I for one would be grateful.
