Awesome thanks for the link. Looks like there are a lot less off camber situations from the few videos I watched. Although I think URE was pretty rutted last time I was out there with everyone.

I would just like to go on record and say that MadToy is by far one of the better spotters I have wheeled with.

I can spot squirrels in the road a half mile away..... Shocked

Gulches actually has LOTS of off camber situations that can get very dicey - especially for the shorter wheelbase FJ's. None on video though, since the guys filming were most likely too white knuckled to film it Smile

^ 4WD would be nice. If it just sprinkles the night before the entire park will be super muddy from what I've been told.

Lol alright should be interesting. I'm still trying to get used to the super top-heavyness of the FJ compared to the Tacoma. Daniel was a bit of an eye opener for how quickly the FJ can get into a tough spot.

Does a 2wd have a locker? If so you should be good. You can air down which will help a lot.

As stated if it is any bit wet, itll be a challenge for sure. BUT there are many ways around trails... If there is something that you just cannot get over for whatever reason, just back down and go around. That is what I have done.

There are also some really fun trails that go downhill. Only need brakes, patience, and gravity for those!

You could either get a snatch strap, or follow someone with one who is willing to give you a little tug if need be. Brian saved my butt last time with a tow lol...but I certainly wasn't planning on needing one Sad

Sort of. Heck it rained for a week straight before the last trip and it really wasnt THAT bad, even though there were whole trails off-limits since they flooded. I'd say it drains better than Skip leads on !

Oh 2wheel I suggest getting a tow strap, some shackles, and a shackle hitch receiver. You can get all those things for about $100 and it will be a good investment. Recovery gear is not something you want to skimp on, so do yourself and the other people wheeling with you a favor and get good gear.

Take a look at my sig. Brian was referring to one of his off camber moments at the Gulches in that statement..... Smile

1. You are going to need $60+ in gas, and $25 for the pass. Its not a cheap trip.
2. A CB would be great. If you have to take another route, it might be beneficial to have some way to contact us in case you take a wrong turn trying to meet back up with us.
3. Food

yes bring lunch! First time I went I forgot lol. There is a Subway on the way. Always convenient to just have some sort of cold sandwich to eat if your not a fan of PB&J!

Skip does have some drinks snacks and frozen 'food' at the main office. You just pay cash to the 'honor jar'

Other things I found that are nice to have...

Rubber floor mats (but you may already know that)
Print out a COLOR map off the Gulches site.... helps you know the difficulty levels...even though Skip said it was outdated (eg. the "bowl" and "richland road" dont even show on it...

Yeah, but sometimes you miss things like the airplane wreckage pointed out by the tour guide along Richland Road! Laughing

I have been doing some research in preparation for the next tour through Richland Road. You definitely don't want to be without for this.
