| Hey everyone, I'm planning a trip to Cape Lookout and then Ocracoke with some a Jeep buddy. We thought Cape Lookout would be a cool place to 4wheel. Has anyone ever been out there? If so, what did you do and where did you go on the island?
Thanks | |

| The reason I'm asking is because I think it is very primitive and looks cool. You take what you need as you are taken to the island with your 4wheel vehicle (anything less than a 4wheel drive is not allowed) on a tiny boat. Like one car at a time tiny boat. No electricity. Nothing. Were going to see what its like for 2 days. Then go to hotel where normal people stay. LOL. | |

| Oh I'm going. I laughed when I found out you have to reserve a boat to carry your vehicle over there. It sounds like there is NOTHING over there. I'm definitely going to take light camera equipment with me. Maybe a GoPro or two, and a still camera at the very least. I will take pictures and video for sure of the adventure. It will be well documented for all to see. LOL. I'm thinking about taking my Cobra Commander helmet (I got if for this years halloween party and it is funny as hell) and making a few stupid music videos wearing it as we journey across the pond. So if you see the pics with a guy wearing a Carolina Hurricanes Jersey and a Cobra Commander silver faced helmet you'll know its me being foolish. I always buy some ridiculous costume for halloween every year and am always looking for an excuse to wear it before halloween. | |

| Si es muy costoso. But you have to remember they've got you dude. Because its an island. No way on or off except by boat. No gas, no restaurants, no grocery store, no electricity. And yes I agree, very expensive, but these boat runners have to make a living too. This is probably all they do all day. You end up spending $37.50 each way which totals $75. It is by appointment only - and you have to make it well in advance. So you can't just leave and return anytime you want. You make an appointment before you even get there for entering and leaving the island. So you have to be prepared for anything and everything while you are there heat-rain-severe storm. No late night food runs either. And if you forgot something, no going back to pick something up at the store. You're stuck. Thats why we are only trying it out for one night. Its kind of a gamble. I'm hoping it will be fun. I think it would probably be the ultimate hell in the summer time. Hopefully the mosquitos will be almost non-existent now. And I think the max you would pay for 1 vehicle is $85-90. I can't remember when I made the appointment but it is all on this http://www.nps.gov/calo/index.htm site. | |

| Wow sounds really cool, I wouldn't mind paying the price for something that different.
Definitely let us know how it goes

Who's normal? ???? Sounds like fun. I have wanted to go out on this island for a long time now. I had checked on it when my wife & I were backpacking alot. I forgot that you can take a vehicle out there. Can't wait to see the pics and hear about the experience.
