| My parents bought me a 2010 black FJ last week and one of the first things I want to do is make the roof and various other parts black. I don't really want to do anything permanent so I have been thinking about using Plasti Dip. I've seen pictures of black FJ's with matte black roofs and I think it looks good. Has anybody seen it in person? thoughts? | |

| yeah i really love the black top...i know the FJ Cruiser is a modern adaption of the original FJ that had the white top...but i think it should come with the black roof option...

Yeah I really like how that looks. Hopefully I can find some time to do it soon

| Damn that looks good. I'd do it but the summers get hot, that'll heat you up for sure. | |

| Yeah, it does get warmer in there than it used to. Luckily the windows are illegally dark so it's still cooler than a stock truck with no tint and a white roof. It's worth it for the look though | |

| Currently weighing my options between having someone paint mine (hopefully Bigdogdewey's neighbor?) or Line-Xing it. I have mine plasti dipped right now, but without using an actual paint sprayer, it does not have enough evenness to be worth keeping up. | |

One of my good friends has a paint sprayer I can use so I'm not really worried about it being uneven and obviously the nice thing about plasti-dip is if it doesn't look good, it comes off super easy

| A dark roof will make the FJ hotter but that matte black posted looks sweeeet.
If you don't want for it to be permanent maybe get matte black vinyl installed?

I probably will do a permanent mod in the future but I want to see how it looks matte & then try gloss to find my preference

| i personally think matte with look best on a black FJ...i do suggest against any bed liner product...if it cracks and most do (not a big crack that you can see, a hairline crack) water will get in and it will do some pretty damaging things...least of all rust...
just my $.02 worth... | |

| I plan on doing a matte black on my roof, once I get time and it gets a little cooler out..... maybe this weekend, high of 82 Saturday Still not sure if I want to use plasti dip or rattle can / wetsand. My biggest fear is taking off the roof rack and losing a nut in the headliner meaning I would have to take the headliner down.... that would tinkle me off tinkle, really??? hahahaha

| its actually not a nut in the roof...and there is a sequence to taking the bolts out...so that you dont lose anything and dont have to pull the headliner...
they come out as pairs... unscrew bolts to almost out, but not all the way
Driver side: unscrew the front bolt of the pair first then rear bolt of pair
Passenger side: unscrew the rear bolt of the pair first then the front bolt of the pair...

| I did them in no particular order and had no problems. Worse case scenario, when I do my second coat of paint, I lose a nut under the headliner, have to remove it, and take advantage of that to put some sound deadening on the roof so it doesn't sound like a tin can everytime it rains. <-- run on sentence, I know. | |

| Off with the plasti-dip, in with the professional job. Originally was going to have Bigdogdewey's body man do it, but I actually found a better deal through a friend of my family's... Pro job at a Toyota dealership for $175 Dropping the truck off tomorrow. Pics will be posted soon! | |

| Is that a price for just matte black, or could they do other colors...for others? Or is it a friend of family only type deal? | |

| Unfortunately, it's just a deal this guy is giving me because he's good friends with the family. I guess the materials themselves cost about $100-125, so he's really cutting it low for me. I lucked out big time with this... | |
