| I want to add some sort of water purifing device to my survival gear. I have been to REI and talked to them and stared at the different choices only to leave empty handed.
The guy at REI recommended the Katadyn MyBottle Microfilter bottle. Looks cool and sounds like it would do the trick. but after reading reviews on the REI site, it seems like it does not work that easily. I like the compact iodine tablets and such, but there is a long wait in many cases, as much as 4 hours and for a small amount of water. I don't want to spend $100 for a filter "system" plus they are bulky.
Does anyone have a device they have used and would recommend or at least some input? | |

| Not sure what FTW means... Any who. A girl at work gave me (I love free) her old MSR Waterworks II water purifier. It is a pump type and comes with an extra filter which it self is about $40. I think it has been in her garage for about 5 years so I will boil the filter to ensure it is clean. Can't wait to give it a try...hope I don't get sick... | |

| Sometimes people joke, Scott. I was saying to not purify, just drink the creek water. | |

| I'm sure you've tested your filter by now, but I have the MSR Miniworks and it is probably the best piece of gear I own. It is a little bulky, but Nalgene bottles attach to it so you don't have to worry about cross contamination of hoses and the ceramic filter is good for a very, very long time. Iodine tablets are cheaper and weigh less, but then your water has a skanky flavor to it. How'd your filter work out? | |
