| This wouldnt be so much of a wheeling trip as opposed to a exploring backroads kind of trip. I used to be able to navigate from the north end of the pisgah natl forrest to the south end without ever touching the BRP or any 4lane hiways. I tried to plunk this route down in google maps. View Larger MapThats the best I can come up with. I know of many many primitive campsites along the route and a few waterfalls that a few minutes hike from the route. The drive up old 105 is also nice. I am thinking make for a 3 day weekend and meet up in blowing rock on friday morning and head out, stop whenever we get to a scenic spot or get tired and want to camp. | |

| Im all about relaxing, Im just a minimalist. If it isnt necessary then I dont bring it. I used to pack thousands of gadgets for comfort and convenience but realized that they just made me spend that much more time packing and cleaning up before and after. I dont like that part as much.
Anyway I want this to be a more the merrier kind of trip and I am also crossing my fingers that all these roads are open and not gated. I got a good map to find go around routes just in case.

| If you look at a the map and zoom it out to where you can see the enitre pisgah natl forest you can see the northern part makes a horse shoe shape. I used to romp around all kinds of fire roads and forest service road around the NC part of the horse shoe.
I know of a bunch of waterfalls and overlooks that arent on the beaten path.

| I/we would be up for a trip like this. Weekend trips are tough for Kim and I to get off from work. But with enough notice on a confirmed date I can possibly make arrangements to be off. My wife on the other hand doesn't even know where she will be working this far off. | |

| How does October 5-7 work for everyone... it should be cooling off some by then and fall foliage will be starting to get pretty good by then as well. | |

| Date doesn't work for me. First weekend back from a 6 week vacation. I would prefer some time in Nov, but you are right about this time of year being very colorful. There's always next year for me. | |
