| Received the following email today:
Dear FJ Summiteer,
We're glad you'll be joining us at the 2011 FJ Summit -- we're all getting excited for this year's event! There are a few updates to trails that I wanted to let everyone know about:
First, we have added new trail times to the trail selection page. Whether you don't have trails yet or just want to change your times, visit the trail registration page to see you prefer the new options. Many thanks to everyone for waiting patiently while we got new trails up. You can get to that page by logging into http://www.fjsummit.org/mysummit.php , and then choosing the "Change Your Trails" button.
Second, we have the page up for you to volunteer to be a trail leader at this year's summit. The FJ Summit relies on volunteer trail leaders to make the event work, so if you are at all interested, please check out the page for some more information. We'll help you through it too, so if you are inclined please consider helping out by leading one of the trails you are signed up for. You can login to the same web page as above, but choose the button to "Volunteer to Lead Trails at the FJ Summit." I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about leading trails.
Many of you have contacted me about being a trail leader -- we want to make sure you get the chance to do that, so if you could please sign up for trail leading we would really appreciate it!
We've also updated the descriptions on our trail page to include some of the trail information from Funtreks, so if you are looking for additional trail details be sure to see the "Trails" tab on the web site.
More information (like the schedule of events) will be coming soon!
See you all in Ouray,
-Ty! | |

| Well, I'm back from the Summit! Got back on Wednesday. Had a BLAST!!! Here is a Synopsis of the event: First day was a blast - registration, shwag bag and meeting people from the Blue Room and getting to talk to the vendors and check out their product. ALL vendors/sponsors were great - very helpful! Special thanks to Mark from Metal Tech for hosting the Friday night Pint Night (Free MT pint glass!!!) I also got to speak meet and chat with Brad from Ricochet (he has a new "beefy" one piece back-engine skid coming to market soon....) Also, I met and got to speak with Digger Branson from Outrider - GREAT guy! - I am ordering a set of the front lower link mount armor from Outrider: http://www.outrideroffroad.com/armor.html ). Trails were awesome and the FJ was AMAZING!!! Here is a link to a set of photos from our first trail ride: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/2011-fj-cruiser-summit/132814-california-corkscrew-photo-9-30-7-21-a.html BTW.......Engineer Pass was ROUGH!!! VERY rocky - not having a lift, I put my Ricochets to good use! No vehicle damage to report, really only touched rock a few times and they were BIG rocks....so I have a few "battle scars" on the bottoms of the skids, but that is why I bought them! The views on the trails really played tricks with our minds....the angle of the mountains, the drop offs (shelf roads with 1,000 foot drop offs....). Steep climbing angles and descents and LOTS of rocks really put me and the FJ to the test. Next time I go back, I will have a 2.5-3" lift and even more aggressive tires (I would definitely recommend this by the way). Best Western was a great hotel and an exceptional host. The Ouray County Sheriff and their 2 FJ patrol vehicles were great to us (guess it helps that the Summit donated $1,000+ dollars each year and ICON donated the lifts and suspension for the Sherriffs FJs ) Ouray Fire department was there the whole time and provided a "car wash" at the end of the event (took the fire hoses to all FJs that wanted it....lol) The town of Ouray itself is very welcoming (we almost doubled the towns population that week). Finally, the organizers of the Summit really did a GREAT job!!! It was a long drive, but well worth it! I love my FJ, but now, I have an even greater respect for the truck....We all ran the trails in 4-LO with ATRAC and aired down tires to 20psi the whole time....never had an issue. ALSO....My Midland "handheld - hybrid" CB worked Great in combination with my Cobra Magnetic 3' antenna!! Heard ALL conversations on my trail runs and picked up traffic while traveling the highways as well! So I highly recommend it!!! I will try to post my pics soon....All in all I had the BEST time! I miss the mountains already........ | |
