well after looking and looking and looking at the front end of my FJ ..i and another set of eyes have sumised that the right side steeering knuckle is bent ever so slightly. not 100% sure but im all but sure...no matter how much we cranked on the cam bolts we still couldnt get the camber positive...so...now onto bad things...how much is it gonna cost me to replace this knuckle...if anyone can help me out i would more than appreciate it...has anyone else had this problem? what did and where did you go to fix it...?

apparently this knuckle is actually shared with all of the following vehicles...in other words the knuckle from a 4runner and lexus is interchangeable....good to know

4 RUNNER 03-10 Knuckle
FJ CRUISER 07-10
LEXUS GX470 03-09
LEXUS GX460 10-11

the 2005+ tacoma
and the IFS landcruisers share the same knuckle as well

I cant imagine the knuckle giving before a tie rod or ball joint. I guess anything is possible but you baby that truck. I just dont understand how a minor impact like that can cause something so bad.

yeah i know ...i wouldnt say that i baby it...i just dont attack every rock like its life or death..but yeah simple impact nothing really hard...im not completely sure that it is in fact the knuckle...but after doing a butt load of research i have found that the knuckle is in fact the weakest part of the front suspension. total chaos makes gussets for the knuckles but you HAVE to have aftermarket UCAs...not exactly sure why but thats what is said on the website. oh and by the way...that knuckle...is uber expensive...$300+....for ONE...and also not at all easy to find used....wow!!!!

Ok so after some reading I can imagine it... IT is evidently fairly common.

interesting read. http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/how-technical-articles/63180-weld-spindle-arm-gussets-all-pro.html

call some local junk yards and get a knuckle most likely going to be on an older 03 4runner. Older + easier to find in a yard.

There is a Pull-A-Part off I-85 in Charlotte near the Sugar Creek Exit on HWY49. Thier wbsite is not always accurate.

Coming from the north on I-85 exit at City Blvd, Left turn off of exit then Right turn on 49/29 Pull-A-Part is about 1-2 miles on your left. cost $1 to go inside & see if your part is there.

From South exit on Sugar Creek & turn rt off of exit then left at 49, on Rt about 1 mile north.

Well its official...the right knuckle is bent ...and not just bent but actually twisted AND bent...went down to charlotte to see Brian at ASI-auto solutions and Jeff there diagnosed it and i feel very confident in what he found...after being able to get under it and take measurements wow is it obvious...anyway the guys down there at ASI are going to be doing the repairs and im glad that they are...if it wasnt for the fact that they are 75 miles from me i would be there all the time...if not to have work done but to hang out with a bunch of great guys...

if you ever go down there ..DO NOT GET NEAR THE WHITE TRANS-AM....lolit will move with out even haveing the motor running...its jsut weird!!!

well il be down there next week to get the work done...

Thanks Mike, glad we could help! And Travis is nuts about that car. Pretty sure he'd sleep with it if he could haha. And thanks again for the slider deal, glad we could work something out!

Bummer to hear about the spindle/steering knuckle. Once you get a replacement you might want to look into adding these from Total chaos fab, Allpro has some too:

59698 59698-SB
05+ Tacoma Prerunner/4wd, 03-09 4Runner & FJ Cruiser Weld on Spindle Gussets
Eliminate a bent factory spindle on the trail caused by hard impacts on your FJ Cruiser, 05+ Tacoma , or 03-09 4Runner by installing a pair of TOTAL CHAOS weld on spindle gussets! Several factory Toyota race teams and recreational enthusiasts using these model platforms have damaged the factory spindles while venturing off road. TC now offers a weld on 1/8” laser cut spindle gusset intended to reinforce the spindles where they bend. These gussets can be installed with aftermarket UCA’s or long travel suspension systems and are not compatible with stock upper control arms.

PT# - 59698 (Sway-Bar Eliminated)
Price: $42.99 pr.

PT# - 59698-SB (Sway-Bar Retained) *When using factory wheels, +1.25" wheel spacers are required.
Price: $60.00 pr.

chad said that he has ordered a pair from allprooffroad, ai I'm going to wait to see how his goes ...$50 is not much at all when u consider the the cost of a new or even used knuckle plus labor...so for a pair..yeah its worth it...

Worth it i'm sure for cheap insurance if anything. Really surprised that the spindle bent before the end links, ball joints or tie rods.

I might have to do this when I finally do my UCAs. I've already had issues with my tie rods, but I just assume avoid issues with the spindles/knuckles.
