Sinking Seat Syndrome Empty
PostSubject: Sinking Seat Syndrome   Sinking Seat Syndrome Icon_minitimeMon Sep 26, 2011 1:52 pm

I have noticed that my seat sinks after a few days but didn't think that much about it...annoying, but I assumed it was due to age. But after looking into it on the Blue Room, I found there has been an issue with many of the older models and there is a TSB (Toyota Service Bulletin).

This was the reply from my dealer:

There is a bulletin for front seat cushion gradually lowers. The seat height adjuster mechanism has been modified to correct this condition. Depending upon whether or not you have air bags in the seat determines parts needed. You can get just adjuster sub assembly if no air bag in seat. If there is an air ba in seat, you will need to get the entire seat assembly. Toyota only warrantied this for 3/36. If you purchased an extended warranty, I can contact them to verify coverage and start a claim. Let me know if you purchased that warranty and I will be more than happy to go ahead and verify that coverage. I will also need to open a repair order and it will require a mileage.

I do have an extended warranty, which means in my case there is a $100 deductible. The seat new is $2660, so a good deal, but still $100.

The SSS seems to be a 2007 and 2008 model issue. Does anyone else have this?

So far so good in my 07. I'm short as it is, so I hope I don't start settling!

I have this problem with my 08. When I first noticed it I thought someone, such as my wife, had actually lowered the seat back down. Then I realized it was happening more frequently and no one was driving it but me. Unfortunately I didn't get mine in for a fix before the 36k mile cutoff.

I'm with NCFJ Driver - I have a 2010 and no issues... I know that doesn't help, but thought I would add my .02 Wink

my seat lowers too. I thought I was crazy, or that the wife touched my seat! Having to pump me up every week or so is nothing for me to fret about.

I figure it sinks, the armreat is worn and there are signs of wear on the outside where I slide out...For $100 I get a new seat including armrest...well worth it. IMO

Oooh, well that explains it. I have to raise the seat every few days and yes, it makes me think Im crazy to believe that Im "sinking". I have the extended warranty also for another 18K miles. Scott, which dealership are you going through for this? I would definitely like to look into getting it fixed... who knows what would happen years from now if we dont and I dont plan on spending 2K+ for a new seat.

Got the FJ back with the new seat...even came with a bit of that New Car Smell...

Here is the bill...I paid the $100 deductible. Sure was not much labor involved...

Mines been at the dealership since day before yesterday. They're still "testing" it. I got hooked up with a free rental car and if parts get replaced I have a $0 deductible which is awesome. Don't know if they'll replace the whole seat though since its leather. Would be nice though.

I had a Tacoma. In the past when it was in over night, they gave me a car...usually something small. I told them I wanted a truck this time. Was hoping for a 4x4, but no luck. It was a nice TRD Sport 4 door though. My seat has an air bag. That is why they replace the whole thing. Otherwise, they can replace the faulty components.
