The front wings came off super easy and the bumper paint looks great, next step is the rear.

It looks like I have to back the whole bumper off, who has done it. (pics) I am comfortable with a wrench so I am pretty sure is will be easy, I am just looking for some input and motivation.

thanks

It's really easy. There is a tutorial somewhere on the blueroom fj forum. The hardest part for me was getting those stupid connectors off from the parking sensors lol.

trust me, its that easy.

I wanted to keep the strip in the middle b/c I left the grill (and chin) silver. I guess I am weird like that.

I think I needed to keep some silver on my FJ since the color was black.

I really like the black bumpers, grill,.....the sand TTs are sweet looking and the new green TT is smoking hot!

What kind of paint did you end up using to paint the bumper and did you sand, prime & paint?

And yeah it's time for some bigger tires!

the end caps were in good condition so I did a wet sand with 100 or 500 (which ever is smoothest) and used "bumper paint" I think it was dupli-color. It said bumper paint on the can, you can't miss it. the bumper paint is not a gloss, it is between a flat and semi-gloss, closer to the flat end of the spectrum.

Thanks for the quick response! Yeah it seems to be more of a flat/semi gloss. The reason i asked was i recently painted a part of my grill using Duplicolor Toyota black and it turned out good. It just wasn't as gloss as i thought it would be. I think it is because of the material of the grill more so then the paint. Originally it was chrome plastic. I sanded it down using a grit 400 and primed it several times then painted. You should paint the center piece too!

Is it necessary to remove the front bumper in order to get the lower fascia off? And maybe the same question for removing the wings?

Yes, I remember having to remove the whole bumper to get at the wings when I removed them. I don't remember if I needed to remove it for the bottom piece, but I had it off anyway... The bumper is so easy to remove (both front and rear) that you might as well take them off to do the work. I could probably have both bumpers off in less than 10 minutes while still taking the time to sip on a beer in the process. Very easy. I used Rustoleum Satin black from Lowes and it's been very durable. I did wet sand with something between 500 and 1000 grit until the stock paint had no shine. I then cleaned it very well, let it dry and then painted several coats on it. After drying overnight, I reinstalled the parts and admired how well the newly black parts matched.
