| I was having the shuttering issue like Nick, if you know who I'm talking about. If not, let me explain . . . My FJ would start shaking for some weird reason when I was driving. It felt like if you were driving a M/T and was getting to low in a gear. That's the kind of shaking I was getting. Well after all of Nicks problems I found a solution, cleaning the throttle body. It was badly gunked up. Well I solved the issue of the mysterious shutter. But now it's idling at 1200 RPM. I don't remember what it was idling at before I started taking crap apart. It just seems like it's running a little high. What's everyone else's idle at? | |

| glad you found a solution to the shakyness. i would say look and make sure you dont have a leak in the intake hose or a connection anywhere along the intake. also disconnect the battery see if that "flashes" it... if that doesnt work...get a bigger hammer!! | |

| There's also a small sensor in the air intake tube that needs cleaning on occasion. I can't remember what the darn thing is called though. Be careful since it's very delicate. | |

| Over time, the computer will adapt to the carbon buildup. When you clean the throttle body, it takes time for the PCM to relearn operation parameters. It's normal, and will go away in a day or so. | |

| What Speedrye was referring to was the Mass Airflow Meter. When they become debris fouled, they can cause many driveability issues. The reasoning for this is there is a very fine filament wire that has a constant voltage applied. As the airflow across the sample wire increases the resistance will change also. As the resistance rises, and falls, the Powertrain Control Module will interpret that info along with the ambient air temperature to determine the volume of air being introduced into the engine. Typically, a dirty MAF sensor will cause a loss of power, low idle, extended starts ,a check engine light,or any combination of these. | |

| Thank you for your help everyone. BUT, the shaking is back. It stopped for 2 days. I cleaned the air sensor when I cleaned the throttle body. It must have something to do with air and the engine though. I guess I'll have to tear it down further this time. | |

| How long since you have changed the plugs? | |

| I've never changed them. BUT Toyota changed the plugs on Nick's FJ and it didn't solve the problem. I just don't want to spend $ where it doesn't have to be spent. | |

| Those plugs are scheduled for replacement every 30k miles. They are only a couple bucks apiece for OEM. | |
