| For those that don't hang out in the blue room, Toyota has released the above bulletin on the clunk when coming to a stop, or leaving from a stop. You know, that "did somebody just bump me from behind" feel. My 2011 has had it (about 5+ times a week). I swung by the dealer today, they test drove it to confirm and have ordered the part. The fix is a new improved rear driveshaft. Seems like those in the blue room that have had the fix done are happy with the results. My new shaft should arrive tomorrow. Once installed and driven for a bit, I'll post the results. It is being covered under warranty - 60 months or 60,000 miles, which ever comes first.
PS...I hear they have one for the Tundra too.

| Is this a new, but same, drive shaft? Or is this a new, and different/corrected, drive shaft that fixes the problem? |

| Here's the link to the blue room thread. The TSB says "improvements have been implemented on the rear propeller shaft..." The TSB came out February 23, 2012.

| So I emailed the link to my rep at Hubert Vester in Wilson. They have been great for me. As I suspected, just like my seat, they will replace it for the $100 deductible. That is the way my extended warranty is set up. My FJ had about 70k on it when I got it so it falls outside the 60k factory warranty.
I think it is worth it for $100...what do you think?
They will also throw in a free oil change since it is a long drive for me (30 minutes). They also GIVE me a loaner while they have mine...

| Scotty, if you have the symptoms, I would say yes it's worth $100 and a oil change.
Brian, I wouldn't think the 6MT would have the same symptoms since when you come to a stop, you are freeballing with the clutch in. It wouldn't be spooling up the driveshaft, if that makes since. I haven't seen a similar bulletin for the 6MT, but I haven't searched. Someone did ask on the blue room thread so keep a look out there.

| LOL yeah you are right. I was thinking I had this but remembered it was my 2010 F150 Platinum that did it. Very annoying especially when I had customers in the car... | |

Mmmmmmm, I meant "freewheeling", not "freeballing".

| New rear drive shaft is in. So far so good, no thump/clunk. It does seem to feel a little smoother at shift points. All is good in my FJ world. | |

| Sounds great. I'm going to give it until next service and have that done too. I also have the seat thing going on I think. It's happened half dozen or so times. Front right corner? |

Yup, front right along that style seam that goes across the seat bottom. I could actually push down on it with the heal of my palm and make it click.

| I'll play with it and see. It sounds like springs are getting bound up with each other or a broken spring to me. |

| Took the Scottydog FJ to Hubert Vester yesterday to get the "shaft"...was originally going to wait for it but then was told that the warranty company did not want to cover the cost (minus the $100 deductible). So the dealership got on the phone and started making calls to Toyota SE and others. When the dust cleared, the cost was covered. This process was going to take a while so they gave me a brand new Corola to drive back to Raleigh/work at no cost to me including gas. They called me yesterday afternoon to let me know it was ready. Picked it up this morning, new shaft and oil changed.
This is not the most convenient dealership for me, but I have to say it is the BEST dealership I have ever dealt with.

| wonder what they would have said to me ..."we arent going to do it due to outside influences, your rear bumper is dented so we cant cover the prop shaft.."... | |

| Darrell, I would present them with the TSB (Technical Service Bullitin) from the original posting on the Blue Room. It says nothing in it about VIN specific. It is pretty clear to me that it applies to ALL Toyotas with the issue.
I forwarded the TSB to my service person at the beginning and they could see it prior to even looking at my FJ.
