It would be nice to see a few more of the newer guys go down with us. You can ask Adam (the guy with the girls bathing in his avatar) that you can have a lot of fun doing trails that are less difficult than what we did last weekend in Uwharrie. Less rock banging!!!
so Brain would you say that the gulches is easier than uwharrie? I figured it was the other way around... only from what ive heard though, as i never actually been to either one.
The biggest differences between the Gulches and Uwharrie are:
Uwharrie has more rock (especially jagged rocks), Gulches is more dirt.
Uwharrie is more going over ledges/hills/rocks, etc., and Gulches is more traversing terrain.
Uwharrie's trails are miles long and we do 3-4 on an average day. The Gulches "trails" are shorter (ranging between 10-100 yards)and you can usually do all of the "doable" stuff in one day. The benefit of the short trails, is if something looks too much for you can can stay with the group via another small trail.

Gulches is a little "easier" - at least you can easily make it so.
Gulches is also a lot of off-camber stuff so you get that "Oh crap" feeling in a different way than Uwharrie. At Uwharrie you get that when you scape and slide off a rock onto the skids lol.
Gulches feels a lot more like you are just playing around in someones (big) back yard...which I guess we are lol....Even though I have only been to Uwharrie once, I do like Gulches more...Also helps having a ton of intertwined routes you can take so that you can get around other people/groups. I always feel very not-rushed at Gulches, which helps make for a more enjoyable trip.

Well you can also make Gulches much more difficult than Uwharrie at the same time. I can push my truck a lot harder at the Gulches than I can at Uwharrie
so pretty much you can bite off as much as you want to chew, just at uwharrie your a little more committed to that trail b/c lack of workarounds?
Yes. However all the trails (with the exception of Daniel) have a mild level of obstacles that you must go through. There are more challenging obstacles on some of these trail, but the are routes around them.
Gulches = approx 80 acres
Uwharrie = approximately 1100 acres

Lets wait till Friday to make the call. If the rain does hit Gulches, we can change it to URE.

If there's enough rain on Friday, it should make Daniel a helluva lot more fun
