PostSubject: fj going south   fj going south Icon_minitimeThu Nov 22, 2012 3:46 pm

After the beach trip my fj is having all types of issues. The front main seal is leaking pretty well. I have 2 or 3 idlers and pulleys screeching due to age and sand. The front axles both started leaking grease, had those replaced under my warranty, and then both axle seals went out within days of jim barkleys repairs. I took it back, and they only replaced the driver side axle seal, and now the right one is leaking. I am convinced that my warranty covers the pulleys as well but they are just saying it does not. I am fed up with these guys. I am trying to compile any info that could be helpful with my battle against warranty fraud by jim barkley toyota. I am dissatisfied.

Yeah it is pretty lame the pulley bearings are apparently pretty cheap according to other sites I have read. The front main seal leak should be covered by my warranty, but still scary how quickly it started leaking. I have a ford 7.3 diesel with 268,000 with no front oil leaks wtf. I had over 200,000 on my four runner 1985 and no oil leaks whatsoever. Starting to realize the toyota just isn't what it used to be.

So I took it in again today to address the oil leak, and the front right axle seal leak. They put dye in the oil to trace the front seal leak which is clearly a front seal leak. They also put dye in the front diff, which makes no sense bc it is obviously the axle seal. They are trying hard to avoid any repairs due to the fact that I'm at 93,000 plus miles. They want me to run those miles out with no repairs. I told them I would just keep coming back until it was right, and I think they are starting to believe me.

It really comes as no surprise to me, you guys did all that romping through the beach in saltwater with sand splashing everywhere.

I wouldn't get my 10+ year old vehicle within a mile of that

I don't mean to offend, but it always scares me to see you guys running through the saltwater.

Saltwater combined with sand, say good bye to your bearings, the piddly little dust covers will fail in a heart beat.

I've run 3-4 different four runners, and two pick ups hard at the beach just as hard as the fj, and they all had higher miles no problems ever. Seams the fj has really cheap bearings on the pulleys and idlers. The axle seals are just lame. I will be upgrading once these ones fail next. Hopefully they will address the oil leak, because no amount of beach ddriving should make my front main seal leak oil. Only 300,000 miles. imo
