Hard mounting a compressor Empty
PostSubject: Hard mounting a compressor   Hard mounting a compressor Icon_minitimeSat Sep 22, 2012 4:10 pm

So my next project is to hard mount a compressor in the engine bay, close to the firewall, on the passenger side. I am looking at a couple compressors.

-TJM
-Viair
-(i'd love to, but cant afford it) ARB

My question is, has anyone done this (from this forum) and how has it performed? Are you keeping some sort of cover in it for dirt, dust, and water? What hose length is needed to get to the farthest wheel? I'd like to have it hard mounted because the space is available, and i wont have to worry about not having it when i need it.

comments?

im going to mount a ...wait for it....wait....a slime compreesor ...mine is a 2011 FJ so i have room in two places...either in front of the airbox tube or behind it...i havent made my mind up yet...both seem a good place....it will all depend on what else i want in there....25" of hose is all you need...should be able to reach all tires with that...

Vivair is the company that used to make arbs. I think they are still the co. that supplies arb with their compressors.

Well, after some research, I decided to go with the Viair 300P. Its affordable, the reviews are excellent, and fits perfectly in the engine bay. The included hose is 25ft, and the accessories included are great. It was a pretty simple choice after seeing the reviews, actually, and a lot of people actually preferred Viair over ARB. I am not installing tanks or switches in the cockpit, I just want it simple.

Its going to be hard mounted, so nobody can "borrow" it, and I wont leave it at home, sitting in the bag. Now all I have to do is find or make a cover for it, that can stay snugged up around it, when I'm not using it.
