Any of y'all have any experience with the Slime tire inflator or would it be quicker to just get a power inverter and run a regular air compressor??

I use the 150psi Slime. I think it's pretty quick for the occasional need to use it. Really depends on the situation. I wouldn't want to air up from 15psi to 40psi on all 4 tires with it, as it will most likely overheat. But to go from 20psi to 35psi or so, it's pretty decent. A Powertank would be ideal, but it also comes with a hefty price tag.

the Slime compressor has a 15min run with a 20min off duty cycle...if your not in a rush after you get off the beach the slome would be ok...and i mean OK...not perfect and you do run the risk of overheating it...as Nick said a power tank or equivalent would be ideal...even if you added an airtank to the slime compressor it would help...the Slime is great for a low slow leak, or minor air up after a trail ride but taking a 33" tire from 10psi to 40psi is certainly not recommended not to mention 4 tires...

on that note i must say i have not actually tested my (Nicks) slime compressor....but i do know that they should not be run for more than 15min at a time with a long rest period inbetween...

check out this link...:
http://www.smittybilt.com/product/index/84.htm

apparently these are pretty cheap...$250 range...at least thats what i found...

I've run mine (Mike's) continuous for more than 15 minutes Smile

I used it to air up my 285's from 20 to 34psi after running Richland a few times. It did it fairly quickly too.

That is a sweet deal for the Smittybilt. I guess I'd want to know how many tire fills I could get out of a tank - then of course make sure I have a local place to refill it.

I got this for a Christmas gift and have really liked it. Like any small compressor it's not fast, but it was cheap and gets the job done. I used it after a hurricane creek trip this summer. I filled 8 tires ( my fj and my brothers jeep) without a cool down period. 85% of my offroading is near a large compressor, so I only use this at the remote destinations. Best feature is it is controlled digitally. So you don't have to stand around while it fills.

So it would last roughly 3 or 4 trips? Looks to be about $15-$20 per refill.

thats what i would guess...it may be less but i think thats a good guess...if you look around you may be able to get it filled for less than that...even the coca cola bottlers might be able to fill it since it is CO2....just a guess..

There are many different ways to handle on board air. I chose to go with the Warn Powerplant HD 12000 winch/compressor combo. It has been going strong for 5 years with no issues.

There are certainly cheaper ways to go. Power tanks require refills and over time that too can add up.

Vivair is one of the best. There are a ton of options. I am currently using a cheap slime bag compressor. It really impresses with the 50 dollar price tag. I can go from 15lbs to 35 in about 20 minutes on all 4 33's.

We all know co2 is the high dollar solution. I am personaaly pleased to wait as co2 is another costly refill.

yes co2 is for now i can wait for it to fill back up there are other things i would rather spend 365-400$ on than a co2 system The viair has been a good system have used it to air back up many times, I will not be replacing it anytime soon

My buddy Derek is a metal yard frequent card holder. He found 5 vivair compreesors at asheville metal. He gave me one and we bench tested it. It works perfect. A company went outta business and scrapped it all. So I will be doing a permanent install soon under hood. I will be passing my slime bag to my wife.

I love the CO2 since I use it for stuff other than tires. It's so much easier to use on a jobsite for nail guns and stuff. Grab the tank with it's air hose and a nail gun and I'm good to go. Much easier than dealing with an air compressor, extension cord and air hose, etc. I can use it for 1000's of nails on one fill. Very awesome. Of course it's awesome for filling tires too...
