I drilled this hole in the rear door panel, ran the cable through it and then directly through the boot from the door to the panel and into the jack compartment. I ahve since added a rubber grommet at the hole.

Thanks for the clarity, that looks very sharp...once I measure my "route" to the front with the cable and determine how much spare I have, that may well be the solution...what size drill and gromet did it work out to?

The hole was drilled with a step bit. I probably went to maybe 5/16 or so. Roughly 2x size of cable. The grommet is a 5/16od x 3/16 id I think. The door panel has 2 layers about 1/8" between. So the grommet just fits over the outside but that is fine. I bought a 20' cable from Radio Shack. Cut one end off so I could run it thru the hole and upt to front of truck. Then I had (from RS) a twist-on connector that I added to the cut end. I had about 18" of cable left.

I thought about the cutting the cable part but then I found a cable the Firestik sells that has a removeable end connector. That I what I am going with.

That was also my original intent, but my son bought the parts for me when he was home for the holidays. Seems to work fine...

PostSubject: swr   Thu Jan 12, 2012 5:44 pm

i dont know if i want to buy a swr meter because of the fact that its almost (and i stress almost) a one time use item IMO...i know it may seem selfish...but the ability to use someone elses is probably the way to go...now i also know that if you have one of your own its more convenient..but also with the adjustable FIRESTICKs..once its done...ITS DONE>...

My $.02 worth...
