| I have been searching for storage ideas for the "trunk" of the FJ. There are SEVERAL in the blue room, some of which I really like. So I thought I would take a stab. Here is what I plan to build. I "stole" the idea from Progolfer_20... Hope to make a big dent in this project this weekend. Plan to cover it with rubber map or dark grey outdoor carpet. Trim all of it with aluminum angle strips. My quick drawing:

| Instead of the handles he used I would suggest using some recessed handles, it is less likely to get damaged, plus they look a lot better | |

| How tall are you planning to make this and what kind of slides are you using. This is on my list but I want mine to be about 4" tall for my needs. | |

| It is 10" tall to match the "ledges" on the side of the FJ. I have HD 24" full length slides for it. Going to use 3/4" plywood for most of it, then probably some nicer oak for the drawer fronts. Still debating about making the drawer boxes out of planks instead of the plywood. Not sure which would be stronger. | |

| I think for these size drawers the plywood would be plenty strong and probably less likely to distort later down the road. I am not sure what tools you have Scott, but I would try to router in grooves for the joints. At least for the vertical points. Make the vertical boards a 1/4" longer and router in 1/8" grooves on each side. That with a quality wood glue and this thing will be much more durable. I would do the same with the drawer bottoms. Inset them into the sides about 1/2" up. |
