Gulches 6/22

Ok - Confirmed 6/22 at The Gulches in Laurens, SC. 80% of the park can be done by a stocker, and all of the hard parts can be bypassed, so it's a real nice place to wheel. Plus a ranger will take you out the first time and show you the trails your rig can run.

I might be in, but it would probably have to be this Summer. How far is it from Charlotte? I was thinking 2-3 hours?

Took me exactly 2 hours from Huntersville the last time I went.

Summer was what I was thinking. Lots of bug spray......

We'll have to figure out a good day in summer to go. I'm thinking possibly a Friday if that would work, since it's a bit cheaper, and less crowded.

Fridays will be good for me. Cheaper and less croweded is always a plus. Nick passengers riding along are also charged, right? Do you know how much?

Yes. $5 per passenger. Kids are free.

There's also a one time $5 membership fee for the driver.

So $25 +$5 for driver, +5 for passenger. Thats not too bad. It would be a long boring drive without a passenger. I would be in though. I know the last week in June I will be unavailable.

Yep. It's worth it IMO. They'll even send a ranger out with us to show us around the parts they think we can do, so that in itself is worth it to me.

First 2 Fridays in June won't work for me. So maybe tentatively plan for the 22nd.

Viewed their website and saw these two items. Casey might have to find a notary!

How old must I be?

You must be 18 or older or have a parent or legal guardian there to sign a wavier for you. No Parent then no entrance. You can, however, pick up a copy of the paperwork and have your parent or guardian sign it in front of a notary and we will keep it on file for you so you only have to do it once.

I don't want to go on a Friday if we can't start until 3 (Thay may be why it is cheaper on Fridays). They mentioning opening up on other days. Perhaps they might be willing to open up for a full weekday.

I think they open at 11am on Fridays, so you have time to make a longer drive. Some primitive camping too. I think they have a bunk house now also.

The website made it sound like they would open up other than usual hours if they new someone would come. I am not sure how many people this would require, or what type of deposit. I wouldn't have a problem paying in advance for a full day of wheeling. Most likely I would need to leave between 5-6p.m. to get back at a decent hour. So I would defnintely want to start by 10 or 11. Pull some string Nick!

Let's see if the list grows a little bit, then I can email Skip and see what it would take to open early.

Worst thing is we can move it to Saturday. If there's no event going on, it doesn't get very crowded.

Ha! Yep. You only need to meet Skip once to realize he doesn't do this for money. He does it because he generally loves the sport. Even gives you his cell number in case you get stuck out there.....

And I think I found a new challenge for you Brian!

I've only heard good things about Gulches, excited to check it out!
